Of not having blogged in one year to the date!! Shame on me, I know! But heyyyy.....who's reading anyway, lol. So much has happened since I last blogged but I actually havent stopped finding or looking for inspiration everywhere - I just kinda sorta stopped writing about it on here. Anyhow - I've got the itch again to "share" so Im back, and feeling really inspired by summer! I feel like my wardrobe always going from winter straight to summer. The weather is so unpredictable in New York! As soon as Im feeling bold enough to go bare legged the temps drop and when I bundle up for the cool days....you know how it goes. Anyway! Moving on!
In preperation for the steamy NYC summer ahead I've been putting together a wishlist of must haves for myself; the woman who wants to look cool, be comfortable and not think too hard about it.
Denim Cut Offs
Glam Maxi Dresses
Solid Bold Color in boxy tops, pants, minis, dresses, anything! The fun part is pairing up all the colors
Flowy Racerback Tanks
Patterned Shorts
A lightweight button down shirt
Colorful tribal ethnic motifs in accessories turbans, scarves, clutches, jewelry
2 types of shoes: Super minimal with barely there straps and a wild pair with flair
Gooooooold - Hammered gold, gold hardware, gold bangles piled high, gold hoops.
Nude pieces - I just love the color nude again tanned skin. So sensual, so feminine and so sexy. Not to mention a lovely break from all the bold color!
WHITE!! for all the obvious reasons. I love white tanks and tees and bikinis.
Jumpsuits and rompers - Dressy and casual! They're just so damn easy and glamorous. You can wear them with flat or wear them with heels and they make the day to night transition really easy. JUST PLS make sure to rock the right kinda undies with your one piece. VPL not cute.
Last but not least an arsenal of fabulous "hater blockers" aka sunglasses to shield my peepers from the sun. Aviators, oversized, patterned, retro - Love em all.

About Face: Make-up Artist Bloggers Extrordinaire
Make-up is something that I have always loved. I cant exactly pinpoint when my passion reached its height but it was probably a few months ago when I started watching tutorials on youtube....or maybe YEARS ago when I would enviously watch my mom, aunts, and grandmother rock red lipstick (one of my obsessions)like it was a neutral. There are so many talented people on youtube its absolutely ridiculous. Once I was able to get a step-by-step rundown on how to create some deliciously dramatic looks I was hooked!! Even my boyfriend would watch some of these artists with me, in awe of their ability to completely transform themselves. I started stocking up on product and then I got my first mini freelance brush kit from MAC for christmas (courtesy of the beau). After getting the tools I got into it even more. Its really fun to get glammed up and its almost theraputic; the way painting can be to an artist.
Here is a run down of two of my faves!!

1) The Ladies of Pixiwoo: Samantha & Nicola Chapman
They're looks vary from super feminine to super fierce and they even dable in some fantasy looks. I personally love their celebrity looks recreations. The tutorials are great and clearrrr and they give a full list of products they use. I also love how they even "freestyle" through some of the tutorials. They're relaxed attitude makes you feel confident to try new techniques and looks without feeling like ur going to ruin something. Bonus: They're gorgeous!

2) Petrilude: THERE ARE NO RULES!
Pertrilude aka Josh aka Figa (Long story according to him) was really the first make-up artist to capture my attention with his incredible talent. At this point I wasn't even attempting to try anything I was just watching him!! He is absolutey creative which to me sets him aside. Its easy to copy looks but to be completely inspired by something and create something new and fresh from that is quite another. He defintiely takes make-up artistry to the next level; He has quite an imagination especially when it come to his more "costumey" looks. Perfect for Halloween. Bonus: He does drag and he is FEROSH!

Im Crushin' On Me.......and Crystal Renn
Let me present to you the Miami heat that is Crystal Renn. She's super hot and a plus-sized high fashion Model. I had previously mentioned to you guys I wanted to write a post about body image and just in the nick of time I came across some amazing photos of Crystal that are the perfect example of a woman who is comfortable with her body and oozes sex appeal. Crystal, like many of us, also struggled with her weight. Sad Statistic: From 2002 to 2005, there were an average of 150 deaths per year related to eating disorders. It effects men, women and children alike! To read more about Crystals story follow the links: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crystal_Renn or http://crystalrenn.com/blog/about/
Im a self professed magazine freak. I need constant visual stimulation to survive, creatively speaking. Seeing all these amazingly aribrushed women can take a toll on you - even when you know there is a lot of "magic" behind the production of photoshoots. "Magic" being photoshop, amazing lighting, make-up artists, hair stylists, stylists, tape, safety-pins, and anything else you could think of. Recently we've been seeing a tiny bit of an anti-photoshop movement, most recently with Kim Kardashian, the queen of primp, posing for both Harpers Bazaar and In Syle sans make-up and photo retouching...A move I commend. HOWEVER!! Not everyone looks like Kimmy, but I digress. I think the main idea is to get girls, and women alike, to learn acceptance of their physical appreance and to also come to terms with they idea that they are in total control of their own image. You are what you BELIEVE you are. While finding inspiration in other women can be great we have to be careful to not impose impossible standards on ourselves. Love the body you were born with! It is yours and there is no other one like it! Treat it well and it will return the favor! I think the best piece of advice I could offer to people feeling "ehhh" about their jiggly bits is to learn yourself. Take the time to find clothing that flatters you and makes you feel comfortable and beautiful. Focus on all the things you LOVE about yourself instead of all the things that make you crazy. Try new make-up techniques. Pamper yourself...Tell yourself "I'm a bombshell!"
I am totally guily of having insecurities about my weight, or my nose, or whatever other random part of my body but seeing images of Crystal really put things in prespective for me...To me her photos have more to do with the energy she was exuding than anything. She was giving some serious attitude!! Which makes me feel silly about my complaints, however normal (or not..lol) they may be. On the other side of the scale, pun intended (hee hee), are women who are naturally very very thin and would LOOVE to be voluptous. I look at Zoe Saldana, who is crazy thin, and see a woman completely at ease with herself, who struts proudly on the red carpet. That to me is what makes her so sexy.
I guess the point Im trying to get at with all this "Dove Beauty Campaign" stuff is 1) Be the person to set the standards to which you live your life! Don't let anyone tell you who or what you should be. Perception is relative. What other people find important or beautiful or special doesn't always have to be in line with what is important to you. 2) Be the apple of your own eye! Treat yourself well. The way you treat yourself sets the standard for how other will treat you. 3) Be thankful and aprreciative of whatever deck of cards you have been dealt. Be thankful for your health, for your friends, for your family, ect.
Now onto some sexinessss.....Here are some of my yummy plus size model friends.

I DO love you!
I don't want to go into a whole spiel about Beyonce...Instead Im going to watch the video a few more times and take notes on make-up, hair, and lingerie. I really really really love this video and ALL the elements in it. And I can be a harsh critic but what is there not to love? Its so Hollywood Cheesecake! (if you dont know - google it)
UPDATE: I just watched the video again on silent and I loved it even more. Muahahahaa!! The songs not bad; the visuals are just much better.

I am doing something seriously r-o-n-g wrong. Smh. The Queen of Pop at 52 years of age...about to be 53! AND NO PHOTOSHOP(Peep the fishnet imprint on her hip). She is all types of fierce. Go Madge! The irony of this post is that I was out sick from work yesterday and I wanted to write a post about body image (after spending part of my day at Spa Castle in the buff)....Im still writing that post and it will actually be the perfect follow up to this one...cuz her body is not normal. Lol.
