She is one of the most important women in Puerto Rican history. Rita was born in Humacao, Puerto Rico to a seamstress mother and a farmer father. She is the first and only Latina female to have won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony and only the second Puerto Rican to win an Academy Award. She has starred in close to 50 Films!! Her most acclaimed role being that of West Side Story in which she played "Anita" and won an Academy Award for. I love that first pic!

Warrior Dash: Mud, Sweat, Beer
FYI - No, Warrior Dash is not a hardcore seasoning. Lol
I was in need of an adventure and jealous of my boyfriends upcoming Spartan Race (which I intend on running one day) when I heard of and decided to sign up for Warrior Dash with my uber athletic uncle. After a long, pleading, email thread it kinda snowballed into a family event. And here I am 7 weeks away from "The Event". Can I run? Yes. Have I ever done a race? No. Have I ever done an obstacle course? No. Am I nervous? Yes. Can I do it? F**k Yeah! I have no choice. I have a statement to make that feminine chicks can get sh*t done! I've mastered putting on a full face of makeup on a moving train, during rush hour, in NYC - After having ran to said train wearing heels, THAT'S GOTTA COUNT FOR SOMETHING. Xena was a Warrior PRINCESS - Always looked good, hair was never frizzy, face looked flawless. That how its done. Haha. Anyhow, August 13th is going to be memorable day.

RACE LENGTH: 3.20 hellish miles
Some of the obstacles include jumping over fire, crawling in mud, running through tires, climbing cargo nets, and scaling a slate wall. At the end of those "3.20 hellish miles" (at a ski resort - think, hills!!!) you are rewarded with BEER! Nice and nutritious. Lol
There are also awards given out for top three men, top three women, best costume, and best warrior beard! I'm so looking forward to getting my custom medal after completing the race =)

Amanda Wachob
Amanda Wachob is a NYC based tattoo and fine artist. Her signature has become her boldy colored, uniquely composed tattoos inspired by a play on abstract expressionism. Wachob noted in an interview with The New York Time online magazine:
"I was looking at a lot of Hans Hofmann, thinking about the squares and rectangular shapes in his paintings. I wondered if these shapes were dictated by his rectangular canvas? And if he were going to make an abstract painting that wasn’t on a rectangle, but perhaps on an organic form like an arm, what would the shapes look like? That’s when I had the idea to try it with a tattoo. So much tattoo imagery has been repeated over and over again, I was interested in trying to find ways to evolve it. To play with color theory and see if shapes and forms could actually communicate something more than say a panther. I feel like people should have more options for something that is supposed to be so unique and personal."
Wachob currently works out of Daredevil Tattoo in the Lower East Side of New York, where appointments are booked 6 MONTHS IN ADVANCE! When I found her work I was absolutely FLOORED. The detail is absolutely amazing not to mention the color. How amazing to be adorned with an actual piece of artwork that can only be found on you! I admit these tattoos take commitment but thats what tattoos are all about. Definitely for the hardcore lovers of ART.
